Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Avycast ("the app", "we", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Avycast mobile application and related services.

Information we collect

Account information

You can use Avycast as a guest without creating an account. In guest mode we collect only:

App usage data

Location

If you grant location permission ("When In Use"), the app uses your coarse coordinates to find the avalanche region nearest to you. Location data is used transiently for this lookup and is not stored on our servers. You can use the app fully without granting location access by searching for regions manually.

Technical data

How we use your information

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or to train AI models. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

Third-party services

Avycast relies on the following services to operate:

Avalanche bulletins are retrieved server-side from official regional warning services (EAWS, NZAA, SAIS, Avalanche Canada, CAIC, JAN, and others). When you view a bulletin, no personal data is sent to those services — we fetch the data in aggregate from our own servers.

Deleting your account

You can delete your Avycast account at any time directly from within the app: open Settings, tap Delete Account, and confirm. Deletion is immediate and permanent, and removes the following from our servers:

If you are unable to access the in-app flow for any reason, you may alternatively email support@avycast.app from the address associated with your account and we will delete it within 30 days.

Apple subscriptions are separate. Deleting your Avycast account does not cancel an active Apple auto-renewing subscription. Apple is the merchant of record for subscription billing, and billing will continue until you cancel the subscription in your Apple ID Account Settings. To stop billing, cancel your subscription first (see the Support page), then delete your account.

California residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights. We do not sell personal information within the meaning of the CCPA. To exercise your CCPA rights, email support@avycast.app.

European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our legal basis for processing your personal data is (a) performance of a contract — to provide you with the Avycast service you signed up for, (b) legitimate interests — to secure the service and prevent abuse, and (c) your consent, where applicable (e.g. for location access). You may lodge a complaint with your national data-protection authority if you believe your rights have been violated.

Children's privacy

Avycast is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact support@avycast.app and we will delete it.

International data transfers

Our servers are located in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany). If you access Avycast from outside the EU, your data may be transferred to and processed in the EU under the protections of applicable EU data-protection law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Significant changes will be communicated in the app or via email where appropriate.
