Spring transition from cold and dry to warm and wet! Otherwise, a fine weather weekend to get out and about.   Keep in mind local ski areas have stopped any avalanche mitigation.

No recent avalanche activity however widespread roller balling across most aspects has occurred.  Friday: Fine, moderate SW 1/4 winds, FAFL 1800m.Saturday: Fine, winds swing to Westerly, FAFL on the rise to 2400m.Sunday: Partly cloudy. NW 1/4 winds.  There will be little in the way of sliding danger in the Hutt range.

35-40cm of snow fell above 1600m on Monday afternoon and into Tuesday. The snowpack is still fairly shallow in most terrain with this snow falling on primarily rock. Below the recent snow, on the Southerly 1/2 above 1700m, you will find well consolidated melt forms.  Thresholds are around 1700m on the S 1/2. N 1/2 has melted rapidly and is below threshold.
