If you choose the right slope at the right time, you can enjoy pleasant spring granular snow. Stay away from slopes with glide cracks, which also occur near the treeline. Also, when entering a valley line, pay attention to the terrain above you. In addition to glide avalanches, there are also collapses of leftover fallen snow blocks. Yesterday (28th), several loose snow avalanches of wet snow were observed. There was also a snow block avalanche in a cliff terrain. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting a southerly wind, daytime, northerly winds, clear skies, and a maximum temperature of 16 °C (13 m elevation) for the Joetsu area. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is 1 °C (as of 5:45 a.m.).

Positive temperatures have been observed in alpine areas during the day. As a result, the area where Melt-Freeze crusts are forming on the snow surface is expanding. Near the treeline, there are many granular snow slopes where thawing during the day allows for comfortable skiing. Slopes with glide cracks, such as collapsed snow blocks on cliff-like terrain, are not in good condition. Adequate safety margins are required.
