Winds Westerly 60 km/h, easing to northwesterly 40 km/h in the morning. Freezing level 3000 metres, lowering to 2400 metres in the evening. Crampons and an ice axe are always a good idea for backcountry travel in spring.
Another 50+mm today and over 200+mm for the week, and kept the snowpack wet in combination with the high freezing levels. Lots of small top-ups of new snow above 1650m over early November that have settled well with a maturing melt/freeze crust. The freezing level has been fluctuating with ongoing precipitation and westerly weather flow over the past month. Below 2500m the snowpack has been thinning and getting rain soaked, above 2500m the snowpack has been gaining mass from ongoing spring snowfall events.
