Wet loose snow avalanches are the main danger. In some regions new snow above approximately 2200 m.

Tendencia: Peligro en aumento

Some snow will fall on Wednesday in some localities. In the regions exposed to precipitation the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent. The danger of dry and wet avalanches will increase but remain within the current danger level.

Below approximately 2200 m less snow than usual is lying. Above approximately 2200 m snow will fall in some regions. 15 to 25 cm of snow will fall until Wednesday. The new snow is bonding quite well with the old snowpack. Especially on extremely steep slopes individual mostly small avalanches are possible as a consequence of the new snow. Bases of rock walls are precarious. As a consequence of warming during the day, the likelihood of wet avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on steep slopes at intermediate and high altitudes. The avalanche danger will increase but remain within the current danger level. Mostly the wet avalanches are rather small. Especially on very steep slopes medium-sized avalanches must be expected in isolated cases. In particular bases of rock walls are precarious. Backcountry tours, off-piste skiing and ascents to alpine cabins should be started and concluded early. As the temperature drops there will be a gradual decrease in the avalanche danger towards the evening. Weak layers in the lower part of the snowpack can be released in isolated cases and mostly by large additional loads on shady slopes. In particular on very steep shady slopes only isolated small to medium-sized avalanches are possible.

Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be good. The snowpack is moist and its surface has a strong melt-freeze crust. The weather will be very mild over a wide area. These conditions will cause a very rapid weakening of the snowpack. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to a loss of strength within the snowpack over a wide area. The surface of the snowpack will already soften in the late morning.
