LAST BULLETIN OF THE SEASON: OFTEN STABLE SNOW COVER Triggered avalanches: Thin surface slabs may persist on sufficiently steep North to North-East facing slopes above approximately 3400m, within 15 to 30cm of recent snow. In warmed snow, small wet loose avalanches are possible when cutting a steep slope with skis. Spontaneous releases: Unlikely, or a rare surface slide, on North / North-East slopes above 3500m. Snowpack qualification: Snowpack is rather deficient for the season. After a fairly well-snowed mid-winter, the melting of the snow cover was particularly rapid in spring, with a hot and dry April, and a scorching late May... Snowfall episodes associated with the cool early May period were only a short respite for the snowpack. Snow cover remains at best adequate in certain high-altitude North-facing combes. Skiing limits: 2400/2600 m in North combes, 3000 m on South-facing slopes. On foot, numerous névés still present from 2000/2200 m in North. Snow quality on Monday: * below 2900/3100 m: wet névé snow. * above 3100/3200m: a thin layer of heavy, wet recent snow resting on névé. Crusty in the early morning, then quickly humidifying. * above 3500m: possibility of still finding some cold snow on sufficiently steep North slopes.
